Karen Cannard, CPDT, ABCMT & K9Kapers Dog Training - Shelton, WA
(A Certification Council of Pet Dog Trainers certified trainer as well as an Animal Behavior College Mentor Trainer (which means we train other trainers) and a really good training service)
What We Believe:
Animals are intelligent beings, which for the most part choose to be with humans, working with us, protecting us, and befriending us. There are very few truly aggressive dogs and those are NOT breed specific. Most aggression problems are caused by the human, usually from lack of information. Problems are caused by lack of training, lack of socialization, lack of interaction with people and family members and lack of dependable leadership. We train both the dog and the person he/she loves in order to educate you both. We work with families to promote consistent responses from everyone involved. We use various positive methods of training including clickers - to promote a thinking dog and one that enjoys working with his owner; good soft treats; no free lunch and variety; and we encourage the will to enjoy your training. A buckle collar and a leash will help also. We respect every individual?s right to have an opinion and encourage your research and educational endeavors to learn and share. We will learn along with our clients as new sports and technologies evolve.

Four-legged Shepherd can breathe easier
Firefighters place an oxygen mask on Chamrock, a German shepherd-chow mix, showing how the masks sized for dogs and cats work. From left are Karen Cannard and Ripp Campbell, local dog trainers, and Darren Porter and Rob Williams of Fire District 5. Five sets of these masks were donated to various fire departments in Mason County last week by Ripp Campbell of Canine Basic Training and Karen Cannard of K9 Kapers Dog Training. The masks will help firefighters resuscitate pets suffering from smoke inhalation. The problem with using masks designed for humans is that animals' snouts are often too long or wide for a good fit and results in a loss of oxygen.
